With more than 40 years in the (re)insurance market, Richard Emmett has been part of Pro Global’s journey since its earliest days. Today, as Head of Insurance Services, he leads a broad portfolio spanning underwriting support, technical accounting, broker services and legacy claims helping clients navigate complexity, scale efficiently and deliver better outcomes.

We caught up with Richard to discuss his career, the evolution of outsourcing, and what’s next for the industry.

You’ve been with Pro Global since the beginning: how has the business evolved over that time? 

When I joined, the business was highly specialised, focused on complex run-off and legacy work. Over the years, we’ve evolved into a global partner supporting the full insurance lifecycle. What hasn’t changed is our focus on expertise and delivery. Today, we combine that deep technical knowledge with a much broader international service offering; supporting underwriting, claims, accounting and broker operations for some of the world’s leading (re)insurers. 

 

What are the biggest operational challenges insurers and reinsurers are facing today? 

Operational complexity is the biggest challenge. Many organisations are still dealing with legacy systems, fragmented data and increasing regulatory pressure, but the pace of change all around them is only accelerating. At the same time, they’re expected to be more efficient, more accurate and more responsive. That’s where outsourcing comes into its own; bringing in specialist expertise and scalable solutions that allow clients to focus on growth while maintaining control and oversight. 

 

How does Pro Global support clients across this increasingly complex landscape? 

We act as an extension of our clients’ operations, supporting both complex legacy market transactions and run-off management, which remain a significant part of what we do, alongside growing demand across the live market. 

Today, that means working right across the specialty insurance chain; providing underwriting support, technical accounting, claims management and broker services to help clients manage both historic portfolios and current business effectively. 

Because we operate across such a wide range of organisations and use cases within specialty insurance, we’re uniquely placed as a trusted advisor, able to identify common challenges and apply proven, best practice solutions quickly. It’s that blend of deep expertise, flexibility and consistent delivery that clients value most. 

 

How is Pro Global using technology to enhance client outcomes going forward? 

Technology is central to how we’re evolving our services. We’re working closely with our Digital Services team to embed AI, automation, robotics and process augmentation into client workflows. 

This isn’t about replacing expertise; it’s about enhancing it – human expertise is absolutely enhanced through technology enablement. By automating repetitive, data-heavy tasks, we improve accuracy and speed while freeing up our teams to focus on higher-value work. We’re also seeing strong demand for solutions that improve data quality and reporting, which ultimately supports better underwriting and decision-making. 

 

What continues to motivate you after such a long career in the industry? 

It’s the constant change. The insurance market never stands still, and neither do our clients’ needs. What I enjoy most is working closely with clients to solve problems and improve outcomes. There’s a real satisfaction in building long-term partnerships and seeing the impact of what we deliver.
