A Week Inside the MGA World: Lessons from My Work Experience at Pro MGA Global Solutions

I’ll be honest, before this week, I didn’t fully appreciate what an MGA was, how Lloyd’s of London really operated, or what half the acronyms people throw around in insurance meant. One week later, my interest in insurance has only grown stronger.

I was lucky enough to spend a week doing work experience at Pro MGA Global Solutions, part of the wider Pro Global Group, a specialist insurance business that helps entrepreneurs and established MGAs launch, grow and realise their business vision.

One of the highlights of my week was being invited to sit in on real client meetings. Watching experienced professionals discuss the setup of new MGAs, covering everything from regulatory structures and capacity searches to international expansion, was genuinely fascinating. But what I enjoyed most was understanding the why behind it all: getting to know clients face to face, understanding their motivations, and seeing how the Pro MGA team works to bring their vision to life. There’s something powerful about watching those relationships being built in real time.

The volume of knowledge I picked up this week genuinely surprised me. From all the terms in compliance, to TOBAs, coverholder status, audit processes, binders and many more, I came in not knowing most of these terms and left with a solid understanding of how they all connect. I also got a brief but brilliant visit to the iconic Lloyd’s of London building, which was a wonderful and educational experience.

But truthfully, what made this week was the team. Every member of the team I met took time out of their day to explain things to me clearly, patiently, and without ever making me feel like my questions were too simple or too complex.

I came into this week with a genuine interest in insurance, but now I see it for what it really is, a dynamic, global market, which is constantly growing, and full of incredibly smart people solving genuinely interesting problems. Thank you to the entire Pro MGA Solutions team.
